For the Federation Lunch this year we are returning to The Bristol Golf Club following the positive feedback we received in 2017.  Come along and enjoy a three course meal followed by coffee.  We are delighted that Emma Britton is our Guest Speaker.  I’m sure many of us have listened to Emma on her Radio Bristol early morning programme.  No doubt she will entertain us with her various humorous anecdotes about her life in Radio.

Drinks available to purchase from 10.30am – 11am. The talk commences at 11am followed by lunch at 12.30pm. There will be a raffle. Menu choices must be made on application.

GUIDED TOUR OF ACTON COURT, HOUSE & GROUNDS

Following the Historical Lectures on the Tudor era, Blue Badge guided tours of Acton Court, a grade I listed building of Tudor architecture, have been organised. The Guides will tell the story of Acton Court, the Poyntz family who lived there, the Monarchs they entertained and the state apartments they built for Henry V111 and Ann Boleyn.

This is a private function for the WI.
              Please wear soft-soled shoes (strictly no stilettos!)
    There is partial access for disabled visitors, parking and toilets on site.
                Applicants to make their own way to Acton Court.
Tea and homemade cakes are available in the South Court (not included in ticket price)

GOLF CROQUET TASTER 2018

This is an opportunity to try out a new activity or improve your skills. All levels of player welcome.

SHERBORNE CASTLE & GARDENS

An opportunity to explore Sherborne Castle & Gardens. The Castle was built by Sir Walter Raleigh and subsequent owners have added significant collections of art, furniture & porcelain to the home. This year marks the 400th Anniversary of Sir Walter Raleigh’s execution for treason and there is a new exhibition about his life and legacy at the Castle.
The estate is one of Capability Brown’s finest examples of the English Landscape Garden. Stunning herbaceous borders have since been added, together with sweeping lawns and majestic specimen trees for you to enjoy.

The morning Charity Speaker is from the Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. 
This is a UK charity co-founded by vet Dr Bruce Fogle (father of Ben Fogle). 

                   
NEW HABITS: Eleanor Stewart is our afternoon speaker who has a fascinating story to tell about her life as a Nun and Midwife in the mid 1960s. 
Eleanor is often referred to as the ‘Real life Call the Midwife’!

Delegates will be expected to collect any mail/diary orders/stationery orders

Barry Collett returns to talk about and play the music of the French composer, organist, conductor and pianist, Charles Camille Saint-Saëns.
His music accompanied the TV show Jonathan Creek and the film Babe.

Time once more to sharpen up the memory and put on those thinking caps for the Annual Federation Quiz.  There will be a Quizmaster for the evening. Teams of four are needed. Come along and represent your WI and enjoy a fun evening.
There is a cash bar at the venue therefore you are not permitted to bring your own alcohol.

HOME SKILLS & GARDENS DAY

A busy day with three entertaining speakers.  Local Hat Maker, Tricia Hamilton, will show us some of her many designs with her talk entitled ‘A Hat Journey Through Time’

Clare Young is a Knitter who, with the help of some friends, decorated trees at Leckhampton Court Hospice to raise funds in memory of her husband.  This year she will have a ‘Work of Heart’ Garden at the Malvern Spring Show.


Mary Payne, celebrated horticulturist, Chelsea & Hampton Court Flower Show Gold Medal Winner,
will talk to us in the afternoon. Her talk is entitled ‘Minimum Effort for Maximum Effect’

for a 4 night stay on a half board basis.
En route we will visit the NT Hanbury Hall in Worcestershire.
During our stay we will visit Bronte Parsonage Museum, Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal Water Garden, Whitby, guided tour of York, Castle Howard, Harrogate and enjoy a
North Yorkshire Moors steam train excursion.
On our return journey we will visit Harewood House.

Cost £434 pp.  Single supplement £84 pp.  Insurance £24 pp.

Non-refundable deposit of £75 pp (cheque payable to Tailored Travel)

NEW    THE DELIGHTS OF DRESDEN, THE SAXONY ALPS & MEISEN

We will meet at Bristol Airport for our flight to Berlin where we will be met by our guide and transferred to the 4* Dorint Hotel in Dresden.
A set three course dinner is included at the hotel for the first evening, with the remaining 3 nights being on a bed & breakfast basis.

Our stay will include a walking tour of Dresden, visits to the Royal Palace, Pillnitz Castle & Gardens, a paddle steamer cruise along the River Elbe from Konigstein to Pirna, Zwinger Palace, a steam train excursion from Radebeul to Moritzburg, Moritzburg Castle (pictured) and a guided tour of the Meisen Porcelain Museum.

NB:  Given the historic nature of the places visited, a certain degree of walking will be involved, so this holiday may not be suitable for those with mobility problems

We will meet at our designated pick up points & transfer by coach to our allocated London airport for our direct flight to Munich. Here we are transferred by our executive coach to the 3* Hotel Kolberbrau in Bad Tolz (or similar) for a 4 night stay on half board basis.
The tour includes Oberammergau Passion Play tickets & package, Herrsching am Ammersee, Andechs Abbey, Neuschwanstein Castle, Linderhof Palace & Munich tour (if flight times permit). Optional cruise on Lake Ammersee & Guided city tour of Munich.
