ANNUAL MEETING

Our morning speaker will be Steve Loader from the fantastic Mission to Seafarers based in Portbury Docks, Bristol.  For the afternoon  we are fortunate to have Amanda Owen joining us to share her life story as a hill farmer in the North of England. 

There will be a raffle.

BASKETRY AND WILLOW WORKSHOP

St George's Church Hall, Easton-in-Gordano, BS20 0PA

10am-3.30pm.

Join Tanya Bartlett for an introduction to willow weaving using traditional
weaving techniques of waling and pairing.  We will be making a Bird Feeder and a Catalan Tension Tray.  This workshop is suitable for those new to willow weaving or those wishing to refresh their skills.  Coffee/Tea available.  There will be a charge of 12 on the day to cover materials.

FEDERATION QUIZ

Thursday 17th October 7pm-10pm
Time once more to sharpen up the memory and put on those thinking caps for the Annual Federation Quiz.  There will be a Quizmaster for the evening.  Teams of four are required.  The quiz commences promptly at 7pm.

There will be a cash bar available so, please note, you will not be permitted to bring your own alcohol.

There will be a raffle and refreshments available.

POETRY WORKSHOP

A MURDER MYSTERY IS ANNOUNCED

We will start punctually at 7pm with non-alcoholic cocktails. 
Crime solved by 9.30pm, 1930s dress optional.


WANTED:  Eight guests/ actors to work from scripts on the night (no words to memorise!).  Please contact Sandra Derrick through WI House by the end of August to discuss pre-party meeting and casting, possibly early afternoon on Tuesday 17th September, or by other convenient arrangement.

There will be up to 5 different dances which will include Rock 'n' Roll and Charleston Strolls.  There will be a short break halfway through the afternoon.  Please bring a cold drink with you.  Experience instructor, JoAnne Huntly, will be taking the session.

A floral craft demonstration on how to make more of your supermarket flowers by RHS Hampton Court Gold Medal Winner Louise Bastow.

Michelle Armitage will talk to us about Interior Design and making over furniture pieces.

Lieutenant Colonel Neil Stace, the Sewing Soldier, a finalist in the TV show The Great British Sewing Bee, will give a talk entitled 'Sewing on the Front Line'.

JOHN LEWIS CHRISTMAS SHOPPING EXPERIENCE

There will be a complementary drink and nibbles during the evening, a range of competitions to enter, a range of demonstrations on each floor, food tasting and more.
You will receive a 5 voucher to be used against a purchase during the evening.  This event and activities are only accessible on the evening to WI members, friends and family.

ARCHITECTURE, SCULPTURE & SYMBOLISM OF A VICTORIAN GARDEN CEMETERY

Based on Arnos Vale, this interesting and informative talk will tell us about the architecture, sculpture and symbolism of this well-known Victorian garden cemetery.  Tea and coffee available.

THE DELIGHTS OF DRESDEN, THE SAXONY ALPS & MEISEN

We will meet at Bristol Airport for our flight to Berlin where we will be met by our guide and transferred to the 4* Dorint Hotel in Dresden.
A set three course dinner is included at the hotel for the first evening, with the remaining 3 nights being on a bed & breakfast basis.

Our stay will include a walking tour of Dresden, visits to the Royal Palace, Pillnitz Castle & Gardens, a paddle steamer cruise along the River Elbe from Konigstein to Pirna, Zwinger Palace, a steam train excursion from Radebeul to Moritzburg, Moritzburg Castle (pictured) and a guided tour of the Meisen Porcelain Museum.

NB:  Given the historic nature of the places visited, a certain degree of walking will be involved, so this holiday may not be suitable for those with mobility problems

En route we will visit the NT Polesden Lacey.  During our stay we will visit Standen House & Gardens, Lewes, Brighton Pavilion, Scotney Castle, Batemans and enjoy a train ride on the Bluebell Railway.  On our return journey we will visit NT Chartwell.
